Oktoberfest

Prost to an amazing weekend in Munich! This week was another normal week of classes filled with getting into the groove of things. With the weekend came my first big travel of study abroad: Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. I made the trip to Munich with some friends from Denver, met up with more Denver kids there, saw friends from study abroad, and got to spend time with friends from high school-- nothing I love more than having all my people in one place! After arriving in Munich and learning how to do public transit in German, we went to the city centre to take in some of the historical town. The whole city was dressed up for Oktoberfest and it was very fun to be surrounded by such excited energy. In true German fashion, I had schnitzel for dinner and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! We called it an early night and headed back to the Airbnb to get some sleep for our big day on Saturday. The day began with a 5 am wake up call to make it to the Theresienwiese grounds by 7 am. We waited in line for 2 hours for the gate to open at 9 am. The wait wasn't that bad despite the fact that it was raining but spirits were too high to let anything get us down. It was important to get there early as when the gate opened we all ran inside to find the Hofbräu tent and get a table...I never realized it would be so hard to run in a corset. We need to get there early to get a table as you can only order if you are seated. The Theresienwiese grounds are filled with 14 tents as they called them but they are actually large beer halls that can hold up to 10,000 people each. Once we got to the Hofbräu tent we began to celebrate the day away! In the tent, we ran into many of our friends from University of Denver, back home, and study abroad. It was so fun to see everyone again! There was lots of beer and yummy food inside the tent which kept us occupied all day long. My favorite food option was the pretzel-- I was very content with only consuming carbs all day. Outside the tents, it was a true fair with more food booths, souvenirs, and rides. The entire day was so much fun but everyone was truly exhausted afterwards as you may expect. After 12 hours at Oktoberfest, we headed back to catch a little sleep before another 5 am wake up call for our flight. Oktoberfest no rest as you may say-- not that we wanted to as we were having too much fun! I loved the little time I had in Germany and hope to return one day to take in more of the history and sights!
